  • Wednesday afternoon, October fourteenth. Today's biggest check goes to Soufflé Therapeutics, which just locked in a one hundred thirty-five million dollar Series B. It's the top of a ten-deal, four hundred thirteen million dollar day. AI was the hottest category, landing half of all rounds. We'll break it all down with our Markets and World correspondents. Let's get into the numbers.
  • Here's the snapshot for Wednesday. Total disclosed venture funding hit four hundred thirteen point one million dollars across ten rounds. The largest was Soufflé Therapeutics' one hundred thirty-five million dollar Series B. AI was the clear leader, with five of the top ten deals. And in public markets, Fusion CX, a customer experience AI provider, opened its eighty-four million dollar IPO today. The story of the day: continued investor confidence in AI's growth potential across biotech, finance, and insurance.
  • Let's dive into that top deal. Soufflé Therapeutics, an RNA therapies company, raised a massive one hundred thirty-five million dollar Series B led by Juvia Group. The company is developing a new generation of treatments to improve human health. This oversubscribed round saw strong participation from both new and existing investors. The capital is earmarked to advance its three lead programs into clinical studies, a major milestone for the biotech firm.
  • In climate tech, German startup 1KOMMA5° has hit unicorn status, raising seventy-five million dollars in a growth round that values the company at one point three five billion dollars. 1KOMMA5° provides integrated clean energy solutions for homes, including solar panels, energy storage, and heat pumps. This new funding will accelerate the development of its platform that intelligently connects home devices with the grid, aiming to maximize renewable energy use and grid stability.
  • AI continues to draw major capital. Albert, which provides a chemistry-native AI operating system for R&D, secured a fifty-five million dollar Series B led by TCV. The platform is used by researchers in the chemistry and materials science sectors to accelerate discovery. The company says the funding will be used to expand its AI capabilities, with the goal of dramatically shortening development cycles and reducing the time-to-market for new products, from batteries to pharmaceuticals.
  • The race for quantum supremacy is heating up. Spain's Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech raised twenty-one million dollars in a Series A first close, led by Indra Group. As a full-stack quantum computing company, it develops its own chips, software, and algorithms. This capital infusion is critical for its next phase: scaling and industrializing its quantum computers. The funds will also fuel the development of its next-generation quantum chips, pushing the boundaries of computational power.
  • Turning to fintech, Zippy, a tech-enabled originator and servicer in the manufactured housing finance space, closed a twenty million dollar Series C. The round was led by Saluda Grade, which also entered into a strategic partnership with the company. This dual investment and partnership is designed to accelerate Zippy's growth, providing more accessible financing options in a critical segment of the affordable housing market.
  • A new category of insurance is emerging for the AI era. Harbor AI has come out of stealth with ten million dollars in seed funding from investors including Base10 Partners and 8vc. The startup is building insurance products specifically for the agent economy, addressing the unique risks that arise when automated AI agents, not humans, are making decisions. This is a foundational play on the idea that as AI takes on more complex tasks, it will also need its own specialized safety net.
  • In sustainable chemistry, UK-based HydRegen secured seven point three million dollars in a Series A round. The biotech company is developing a novel biocatalysis process designed to make chemical manufacturing cheaper and more environmentally friendly. The funding will allow HydRegen to expand its work with existing customers in the pharmaceutical and specialty chemical industries and accelerate the adoption of its greener technology with new clients.
  • Empowering non-technical teams to build software is the goal for Lightsprint, a Y Combinator graduate that just raised six point one million dollars in seed funding led by 645 Ventures. Their platform allows product managers, designers, and other non-engineers to build features and ship code directly, aiming to break down bottlenecks in the development process. The capital will be used to expand its enterprise-ready product and grow its engineering and go-to-market teams.
  • And two more AI seed rounds close out the top ten. First, Ambio raised five point five million dollars, led by b2venture, to build an AI-native procurement solution for recycled plastics, making the supply chain more reliable. Second, RevRag AI raised two point five million dollars from Accion Ventures and others. They are developing AI-powered relationship managers for financial services, with plans to use the capital to expand into the United States market.
  • Looking ahead, one thing to watch is a potential revival in the SPAC market. Two special purpose acquisition companies, Frazier Life Sciences Acquisition Corp. II and Harbour Island Acquisition Corp. I, both priced and began trading their IPOs today, raising a combined one hundred seventy-five million dollars. The SPAC market has been largely dormant, so this activity could signal a reopening. We'll be watching to see if more follow and if they can find successful merger targets. That's our show. Back tomorrow afternoon at three PM Pacific with the next deal flow.
